Ashtanga Collective offers traditional Ashtanga classes as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Richard Freeman, and Mary Taylor. Mysore is the traditional method in which Ashtanga Yoga is taught and practiced. Students progressively move through the Ashtanga series in a group setting at an individual pace, to the rhythm of their own breath, under the guidance of a teacher. It is a self-led practice – the series is memorized and taught piece by piece over time and students can come for any duration they choose within the class hours. There is not a group start time/end time nor vocally led teacher instruction. Teacher guidance begins at 7am; doors will be open at 6am for those who wish to come early.
The program is directed by Ashley Hixon. For more information visit ashtangacollective.com.
Tai Chi & Qigong at awake BOULDER
These classes include practices from both Tai Chi and Qigong.
Tai Chi (or more correctly, Tai Chi Chuan) started as a martial art first. However, hundreds of millions of people now practice it for its health benefits and mindful aspects. It is a gentle form of movement that promotes relaxation, flexibility and balance of body and mind. Consequently, tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion.” It is deeply rooted in Daoist principles. Because of this, at the core of the practice is its observance of nature – as well as the natural flow of life. Indeed, it is from this harmony we can discover our very essence – that of inner peace and stillness. With this intention, Tai Chi at awake BOULDER has a focus on health and wellness. The first type of Qigong taught at awake BOULDER is of an “active” kind. Gentle movements blend with mindful and calm breathwork. Accordingly, this promotes the movement of blood and qi (life force energy) throughout our bodies for health and healing. Qigong can help ground us by quieting the mind and bring our awareness back to the present moment – as well as into our bodies. Our practice is open to all ages and abilities and can be adapted to meet the needs of each student. To learn more, please click here.
